All about Memberships, Office Hours, Renting Equipment, and using our Studio and Darkroom.


Join us for our bi-monthly events such as tutorials and photowalks, or learn how to work in the darkroom or a studio setting. We'll also be recruiting volunteers to join our Photographers-For-Hire program.

Our office is located in the UBC Life Building, room #0009. During our office hours you'll be able to sign up as members, pick up rented gear, use our scanner, and ask us any questions you might have.

The UBC PhotoSoc Office will be closed for the summer. If you’re trying to reach us you can message us on Facebook or on Instagram.



There are 4 types of memberships:

  • A: Events, Workshops, Access to Scanner - $10/yr

  • B: A + Renting cameras, gear, and booking studio - $40/yr

  • C: A + Access to Darkroom - $50/yr

  • D: A + B + C - $80/yr

If you didn’t get to sign up in the first term, you can always sign up for the second term & memberships are 50% off!

Not a UBC Student?

You can still be a member if you’re an alumni/staff/faculty, but due to UBC AMS bylaws membership prices differ:

  • A: $15

  • B: $65

  • C: $60

  • D: $120


If you are interested in renting our equipment and are a Type B & Type D member, you will need to fill out a form. Once we receive the form, our equipment manager Bryan will get in touch with you shortly. You can find our inventory here.

**Please note that only Type B & Type D members can rent equipment. There will be a deposit depending on the equipment and all gear can be loaned up to 7 days. 



The UBC PhotoSoc Studio is currently located in the basement of the UBC Life Building, room #0013. To book the UBC PhotoSoc studio you have to fill out a form. Once our studio manager receives the form, they’ll get back to you shortly with all the booking details.

Included in the studio are professional strobe lights, a remote light trigger, and light diffusers and modifiers, a 9' white/black backdrop, and large reflectors.


In this ever digitized world, the UBC PhotoSoc still provides facilities for people who work with film and analogue processes. 

We provide film development and darkroom use inside of our new office space at the UBC Life Building, room #0009. We provide D-76 black and white film processing, chemicals and photo paper is provided with the Type C & Type D PhotoSoc membership.
